Bathing Sand (1 Kg)

The bath dust is natural clay, mined in South Africa. It is baked and crushed to our specific needs for chinchilla coat hygiene. The process gives a sterile and highly absorbent dust that both penetrates to the skin with the fine dust and brushes out loose fur with the little coarser particles. It leaves a shiny, clean coat that looks groomed. It is also important for the mental wellbeing of chinchillas as bathing regularly and staying clean is extremely relaxing. Because of the high absorbency compared to other dust and sand, it can be used for longer before it needs replacement. In our climate, bath sand can be left in the cages and do not need restricted use for most chinchillas. If your chinchilla has a medical condition, baths might need to be restricted to a few times a week.

Grass Hay (500 g)

Grass hay is both a source of fibre and important for grazing, which they do frequently during the hours they are awake. In South Africa, Eragrostis Teff and Eragrostis Cuvula are suitable for this. Grass hay does contain nutrients but not enough to sustain life. It must be used with a high-quality chinchilla pellet. Chinchillas needs free access to grass hay on a daily basis. International studies published for agriculture shows that it compares well to overseas hay used in the Northern Hemisphere.

Lucerne Hay (AlfAlfa) (500g)

Lucerne hay is a legume hay that is a power feed and not suitable for daily consumption. It is very high in nutrition and must be controlled, a hand full twice a week is sufficient. The value of lucerne for all chinchillas is that it is a rough hay that is extremely effective for filing down the back-molar teeth of chinchillas. For breeders, it gives lactating females extra nutrition and it stimulates milk production. Unlike with grass hay, more is not better. It is perfectly safe and recommended when fed twice a week in small quantities, but will lead to obesity if overfed.
